"ROMAN PROJECT" FIELD SCHOOL 2008 is open

The Bulgarian Archaeological Association (BAA) is pleased to announce the next season of the 'Roman project' fieldwork. The BAA Archaeological Field School was founded in 2001 as a Training School for students of archaeology, and is based in Northwest Bulgaria. The Field School is involved in a study of the Roman culture in the region, incorporating a research excavation at a number of sites. This year the project will focus on research of different kind of archaeological sites situated in the Eastern part of the Roman province Moesia Supperior. The project will include investigations of Roman city, fortress and Villa Rustica.    more...

The BAA has started an intensive course based on experimental archaeology. Experiments in pit firing of pottery have become very popular in the last few years. This is an old way of doing things which gives the potter a sense of communion with native peoples from some past time.
